Today's Forecast

Showers and thunderstorms continue tonight with very heavy rain possible. For towns who have seen repetitive wet weather today, localized flash flooding is possible with any additional heavy rain tonight and Saturday. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for the entire area through 1AM Saturday morning. Scattered showers are possible overnight, along with a good deal of fog. Spotty showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two are expected Saturday. Expect a good deal of clouds with breaks of sun and highs in the lower 80s.
A nearly stationary front that has been allowing for several days of heavy rain will begin moving to our south finally as high pressure from the northeast wedges southward. In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a strong ridge remains in place across the Mississippi Valley and a trough deepens off the Northeast coast. The trough and surface high pressure will help to dry us out and cool us down a bit this weekend-mainly Sunday into Monday. High pressure takes over and heat begins to return early next week with sun and 80s through Wednesday. An approaching cold front will bring back the chance for rain by late Thursday and Friday.
